Macro photo: single drop of ice rain at high magnification. Frozen raindrop of transparent ice with interesting array of air bubbles and liquid water inside, glowing on dark gray textured background in cold light
Macro photo: Ice rain drop (1200 x 900)

This is single particle of “frozen rain”, which i’ve encounter one year ago, in November 2016. These drops at high magnification looks interesting: many of them is not too symmetrical, but they are transparent, with nice surface features, and contain elegant arrays of air bubbles inside. Also, i like lighting: this is just diffused light of cloudy sky, but it shows all details of this drop very well.

I’ve captured four good photos of these drops within one hour, and several dozens of less interesting ones. Planned to process other icy raindrops soon.

9 identical RAW photos, taken as quick series, was aligned and averaged to boost signal-to-noise ratio of this picture. Background: dark woolen fabric, natural light, external optics Helios 44M-5 used as additional magnifier; January 2013, Moscow.
